Hosting – good and bad!

Well, I’ve had a number of questions from newer members of Website Monthly and Other98percent about hosting in the last few days. The biggest one was why we recommend Blue Host.

The short answer is that technology matters. You might not care if you have php5 or php4 -or even know what it means- but eventually it will matter. Ruby on Rails is becoming more and more popular… and while site5 for example supports it, they support a method that is a huge resource hog.

On top of that, there are many great things that happen when you have a responsive host, that is on top of upgrades and security – the best part is the things that don’t happen. Your sites don’t disappear, you don’t get hacked, and in general you have nothing to worry about.
I’ve had problems with hostgator – and don’t recommend them period. As you grow you need the ability to transfer sites to a dedicated or other host. It’s a nightmare with hostgator, but real easy with Blue Host.

I guess it comes down to a bunch of little things that makes a big difference.
